Current News: A 7.8 magnitude earthquake shook Turkey and nearby areas, leading to the collapse of several buildings and causing widespread destruction. The quake, which was centered 33 km from Gaziantep and 26 km from the town of Nurdagi, had a depth of 18 km according to the US Geological Survey. Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management agency was based in the town of Pazarcik, in Kahramanmaras province.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences over the tragedy, saying India stands in solidarity with Turkey and is ready to offer all possible assistance. The death toll has reached 237 in government-held areas of Syria, according to the health ministry.
In response to the earthquake, Italian authorities downgraded a tsunami warning for southern Italy. The devastating earthquake has caused widespread destruction and claimed hundreds of lives, leaving communities to cope with the aftermath.
